Self portraitGreetings

Lisa, here.  I’m the founder and owner, and I hesitate to say creative mind, behind Toolmarks, Inc.

Here’s my story…

The story of me is a complicated tale of misguided decisions which have led to a wonderful life of adventure and change. I am a person that thrives in being uprooted and challenged, although recently I have settled into a life of chasing dreams.

Born and raised in the small factory town of Cornwall, Ontario, Canada. My life has seen me live in Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, and most recently New York City.  I have worked in a number of various industries, some of which I’m proud to tell others, some I wish I had never tried. All these have made me the person I am today.

However, as I said I’m a person who needs change. So if I’m not moving, then usually I’m altering other parts of my life, like starting new career paths. I’m a world traveller, animal lover, and world-class procrastinator. This webpage is a start in the change that I want to see not only in the life I lead but within myself. After spending years chasing the life that others set for me, I’m settling in to making my deeply held dreams a reality.

It’s kind of life offering me a vision. Over ten years ago I wanted to get a tattoo, but my mother suggested I should wait five years. If after that time I still wanted the same thing I could get it. I know she hoped I would lose the desire. Five years later to the day I walked into Smilin’ Buddha in Calgary, AB and got ‘the angel on my right shoulder’. This was only a small step towards being true to myself. A few more tats later I’m sure I’m on the right path. I shake my head at the one thing that had been holding me back – ME!

There are few things in life that are certain, this is what my father always says, then he finishes with a chuckle and adds except death and taxes. This might be true, but if we can write our own destiny then it’s about time I started writing mine.

This website is dedicated to three of my passions:

  1. My art – where anyone can order a custom portrait drawing
  2. My writing – where excerpts from my novels will be available with links to ordering information, and my life blog, which contains writings and personal wanderings
  3. My teaching – where I have created a series of units, complete with lesson plans, student worksheets, manipulatives, and so much more, for teachers who want to teach forensic science
